Our family struggle

Donativo protegido
Hi, my name is Alexandra. On behalf of our family, my sister Casey and I have created this GoFundMe in hopes that it gives them a stepping stone to a fresh start. Our family means the world to us, and we are desperate to get all of the help we can. Please. If you have the time, read our story and help us ensure that injustices like this stop happening. This all began back in November of 2018. Our family has been embroiled in a struggle to purchase our rent-to-own home. The landlord kept our deposit payments, refused to sell us the house and give us credit for the money we paid over and above our rent. He then wrongfully evicted us in November of 2019. He lied numerous times to get us evicted and never allowed us access to our personal belongings. He denied service countless times and has had collection agencies harrassing us for money we do not owe. He kept our items out in the snow, and kept them in garbage bags outside on the lawn for anyone to take. We were on our way to court to fight this corrupt landlord when COVID-19 happened, and put a halt to our case. Our parents were homeless, as my sister and I then had to move in with our significant others at their family homes. Since Christmas of 2019, they have been staying at numerous short term rentals, just to have a bed to sleep in. They finally found a rental they could stay in month to month and managed to stay there through the pandemic for about 3 months total, until this landlord decided to unlawfully evict them as well on June 12, 2020, again, in the midst of a pandemic. His reasoning was that he could make more money since the restrictions were starting to lift for Airbnb's. The local police, despite a ban on evictions, forced our parents to leave. Threatened to arrest them with trespassing should they refuse to follow "orders". They have since filed with the Landlord Tenant Board but they are not moving as urgently and quickly as we had hoped. We have appealed to the MPP for Tenant Rights, Suze Morrison, and she took our story to the floor in the House of Commons. We are still waiting for the LTB to respond and for justice to be served. We have also filed a police report, to which it states, the police had no authority to evict my parents from the Airbnb, but at the time, you cannot fight the authority that has a weapon and threatens to arrest you. While our mum was fortunate enough to keep her job through the pandemic by working from home, being evicted yet again affected that. Since having to live in a hotel, she was unable to continue working. Her job was kind enough to allow her to go into her office on her own so she was able to continue to get a paycheck.  For 2 months now, our parents have been living in a hotel, unable to save for a small apartment to just be able to get by until our case is heard in court. They've barely had enough money for food after the expenses of the hotel and need more help than ever. My sister and I have been doing all that we can to help support them but we ourselves don't make enough to continuously help them financially. Our mum makes too much to be considered for assisted living, and not enough to consistently live in a hotel. All of our belongings are still in storage, my parents have burned through their savings just to be able to get by, and they have nowhere to go. The bills are piling up and they are only able to afford one meal a day. We need help. We need anyone who is willing and able to please help our family get through this tumultuous time so we can get by. So we can see this court case through and finally have a victory. Not just for our sakes, but for all of those suffering through situations like this. We know there are many people going through hard times, especially in the midst of all this craziness, but we're desperate. Our parents are too proud to do this themselves, but we know there are so many kind and generous people out there who are willing to help no matter what, we had to take a chance. Please help us in any way you can. We'd be so grateful for the rest of our lives. Homelessness is increasing everywhere you look, and continues to become a bigger problem every day. So when all of this is over, we plan to pay it forward and give back to anyone who is being affected with homelessness and wrongful evictions. Thank you.
