Our family in Morocco

Hello, all. The Sahouani family is raising direct mutual aid funds for our family in Marrakech, Morocco and the small village of Asni in the Atlas mountains, the area which experienced an historic earthquake. As a result of the earthquake and aftershocks, thousands of Moroccans are dead, thousands more are injured, and innumerable Moroccans have lost everything, including their homes, their businesses, and their livestock.

We are grateful our family is safe, though Hassan's niece and family in the Atlas mountains lost everything they own and their small village has been reduced to a pile of rubble.

Hassan's sister's home in Marrakech is standing, but has sustained damage with floor-to-ceiling cracks in the walls and across the ceiling. We don't know if the home is safe to occupy, but the family has no other option. As Hassan's sister explained, "When we see other mothers crouched next to rubble knowing their children are underneath, we count our blessings that we are all alive."

The funds raised will go directly to Hassan's sister's bank account and will be used to rebuild or repair her home. As all of the family experienced an interruption of employment, the funds will also replace lost income, and support the family's day-to-day needs.
