Our Family During My Sons Surgery and Recovery

Hello, my name is Carly. On February 10, 2017 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Bryson. He was full of life, and always giggling. He was the best baby boy anyone could've asked for perfect in every way. When Bryson was 2 months old he suffered a TBI(Traumatic Brain Injury) that resulted in bilateral subdural hematomas on his brain. He continuously kept having seizures and not eating which prompted me to take him to the hospital where we found out what happened that was causing it. The local hospital ended up transferring him to Ruby Memorial Hospital to treat him for his condition. Bryson ended up being in a coma for 12 days in the NICU and then spent another 3 months in the PICU. He went through multiple surgeries and medication changes to get him stabilized. He finally was released to come home with a feeding tube and a magic rod attached to his spine in his back for his scoliosis which both remain in to this day. Over the years since then all seemed to be improving until over the last year. We noticed he was really starting to get a snore sound when he was breathing. This lead to us going to the doctor again. The doctor sent him for a sleep study to check him for sleep apnea. At this time we were also set up on a team at Morgantown, WV called Aero digestive Team so we could see all his doctors at one appointment instead of going out of town multiple times a month for his appointments. Well we never got any news from his sleep study till today. The ENT doctor came in and said he has Severe Sleep Apnea which had caused his throat to get obstructed. Bryson has trouble clearing his secretions out of his throat on his own so they just sit there causing it to be hard to breath. In a normal case of sleep apnea they would recommend bipap or CPAP. In Brysons case this is not an option. Because he does his feedings through his feeding tube at night and throws up a good bit due to reflux. So he would be at high risk of aspiration. The ENT doc and the Pulmonary doc both were in agreement that the best course of action to make him breath better and that would be the safest route is to put in a tracheostomy. It totally crushed me hearing this as I never thought it would come to this. On top of that they said there is also a possibility that his right lower side of his heart has something going on causing his oxygen to drop. So we are in for a long road ahead and I don't know how to do it. I hate asking for help with anything. But I don't know what else to do in this circumstance. My sons admission and operation are scheduled to take place within the next 2 weeks. He will be admitted to the hospital for a month minimum. Just the travel alone and being off work for a month is more than our family can afford. My baby boy needs this and I will be by his side through every single step. We are asking for any help that we can get to help cover travel to and from as well as to help pay for bills for the time we are going to be there. Because I don't want to end up losing my house and have nothing to come home to with my son when he is discharged. I personally want to thank anyone in advance who helps out during this difficult time for my family.
