Hi, my name is Christina and those that know me know that I’m a pitbull advocate. I currently have 6 under my care. On Tuesday, May 16, 2023 I received one of the most heart wrenching phone calls! My son was in our gated front yard enjoying the weather with our dogs when a man walked in the gate, pulled out a machete and hacked into our Canelo twice! Blood started pouring out of his back. My kids wrapped him up in a sheet and rushed him to the closest vet office, but were told they couldn’t be of any help, since his wounds were too extensive. As they proceeded to lift Canelo off of the exam table to rush him to an emergency hospital, they were told they couldn’t leave with the dog unless their services were paid for. They were charged $165 for an exam and one injection! Once they arrived at the emergency clinic, they were taken in right away. I arrived shortly after and couldn’t believe what I saw. As you can see in the photos attached, this was not going to be an easy procedure. Our Canelo needed emergency surgery which ended up costing us $2600, He also needs ongoing care. This was an expense that was definitely not expected. Canelo was cut so deeply that he had to have 4 different layers stitched up, all the way through to his abdominal wall. We’re praying for the best but were also told that if one of the layers opens up, it can cause an infection and Canelo will then have to see a Specialty Surgeon which can cost another $5,000! I’m humbly asking for any available assistance to help us get through this traumatic time. Canelo is on a long road to recovery. Any and all help is appreciated.

Aside from Canelo, Lil Mama was also attacked. She has a laceration across her head which got so badly infected that she is undergoing surgery RIGHT NOW at the Logan Square Animal Hospital costing another $898. If anyone can PLEASE help with this payment it would be greatly appreciated. This was an unexpected event that I never would’ve imagined in a million years would happen to our dogs. I have to pick up Lil Mama from surgery by 3pm and I only have a little over $100 in my account. I attached photos of today’s consent form and bill, along with Canelo’s bills as well.
