Our family, dads in ICU for 3 weeks now

Hi, my name is Trudie.

I am a loving mother to Mia, Alec and Tori and have been married to my love Brent for many years.

Three weeks ago, tragedy struck my family as I couldn’t wake my husband up and now he has been in the ICU at hospital for 21 days.

Brent initially was in an induced coma, now he is paralysed and highly sedated still in the ICU.

We did get a glimpse of him last week where he was responding by blinking and nodding his head, we even got to hear a few words on Wednesday.

My family and I had to have difficult conversations about making the decision on whether he would like to go on and fight, that is a conversation I never dreamed of having or ever doing again.

On Monday a tracheotomy is going to happen to help Brent fight for his life.

I didn’t want to reveal that he may never have use of his legs and arms again at this stage.

It’s terrifying, I have been taking one day at a time and have now come to terms there will be expenses to come.

Our house is not suitable for the care that Brent will need, and we will need to think about the next step for his living arrangements.

Our world has been turned up side down and it has affected the kids work life, university studies and I’m unable to obtain work at the moment as I spend hours at the hospital to support him.

I am hopeful to become his career if he is to ever come home.

This has all happened unexpectedly.

Brent was fine one minute, then I went to wake him up and he didn’t wake up.

It has given my family a wake up call of how special and precious life is.

We are doing everything to support him and ourselves.

The family is supporting each other as much as possible but there are mum and dads bills like, food, rent, medical bills upcoming.

We are really emotionally and physically exhausted and drained by this emotional situation.

We know the cost of living is making it hard for families but if anyone could help we would appreciate it so much, thank you in advance.
