Our Emmy

Emmy Shay was so many things to this world and was determined to not let her battle with leukemia define her.  She was a Daughter, Wife, Mother, Sister, Friend, Warrior.  Lover of life, flowers, her dog Teddy, traveling, baking, walks, the beach, matching pajamas, all things cozy, coffee photo shoots, Christmas lights and music, wine, and good food.  She was known for her knowledge of random facts and had a knack for teaching and sharing these facts. She had a rebellious spirit that made time with her unpredictable and so much fun. She was our best friend. She was so brave until the end.

By now the news of her passing has likely reached you. Emmy would not want us to go into too many of the sad details, but for those that are not familiar with her story, Emmy was diagnosed with Leukemia (specifically AML) 6.5 years ago.  She annihilated that horrific disease and made it look easy to everyone around her. She went on to marry her amazing husband Brian and together they explored the world, adopted their doodle Teddy, and finally had their beautiful baby boy Haywood. All was well until her brutal 1st relapse last year (followed by remission), then relapse once again this year.  Emmy faced these battles like a true warrior.  She was determined to beat the odds.  She went full steam ahead into uncharted territory to receive her 3rd stem cell transplant (which by the way was donated by her superwoman mama!!).  The doctors were amazed by how her body took on these new cells and achieved a THIRD remission. Emmy fought incredibly hard, never gave up hope or her desire to live life to the fullest.  She was the strongest person we will ever know. As a girl who was once afraid of getting her ears pierced, she showed everyone how truly strong she was.  She defied all odds and continued to not only move mountains but move them in her wonderful and graceful way wearing her beautiful smile, with hopeful perseverance, a feisty spirit, and Emmy determination.  You would have never known all that she went through because she only wanted to bring joy to those around her.  Her journey tragically ended December 9th, 2020 due to complications of the ongoing post-transplant treatments.  She spent her last moments with Brian by her side, peacefully enjoying her favorite holiday, Christmas.

The three of us loved her like a sister and would like to give her one last gift...a gift to help support her family through this extremely difficult transition. We have had so many of her friends and loved ones ask if there is a fund for her, or for her family. We are starting this go fund me page in support of Brian and Haywood. Their journey together without her, is just beginning and they could use any support you are able to give.  To say Brian is devoted is an understatement.  Not only did he give Emmy and Haywood the best possible care, he did so with unimaginable love, compassion, and support. Throughout the many years of Emmy's battle, he kept those of us that loved her updated with incredibly detailed, comforting, and sometimes difficult progress updates.  Brian and Emmy lived through their nightmare with grace and dignity.  Our hope now is to lighten the burden Emmy’s family carries.  We thank you for your generosity.
