Less than two weeks ago, my dog was attacked on our property by another dog. I never imagined things could get worse, but then on Sunday, 1st March, he was found deceased in our yard with rat sack packets scattered.
He was a healthy, happy five year old German Shepherd Dog who brought so much love and security to our little family. He’d never done anything wrong, never been a nuisance, and was well trained. Losing him like this has completely broken me. I’ve reported everything to the police, RSPCA, and council. Investigations are happening. I wish I could provide more information but I don’t want to jeopardise the investigation.
I’m a single mother with two young children and my eldest found him that morning and is traumatised. I’m heartbroken, scared, and trying to figure out how to keep my children and my other dog safe, who now can only go outside on lead while I watch her.
Because pets are legally considered property, Victims of Crime cannot provide any financial support, even in circumstances like this. The only way for us to feel safe is to break our lease (which was until November) and move, but the costs are more than I can manage alone.
Here’s what I’m facing:
Break lease fee $2,516 (calculated as of 04/03/2026)
Bond for new rental $2,400 ($600 x 4 weeks)
End of lease clean & carpets $500 (very kindly offered at reduced fee)
Removalists (quoted 5 hrs @ $180/hr) $900
Total Needed $6,316
I’ve already paid for his cremation and the initial costs. Every dollar raised will go straight toward getting us out of here - breaking the lease, paying the bond, cleaning, and moving somewhere safe.
I’ve done everything I can, reported it all, installed more security cameras, and sought legal advice but I can’t stay here any longer. We’re living in fear, and I just want to give my kids and dog a safe place to heal and start again.
Any help, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. Even just sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for reading our story and for caring.
With love and gratitude,
Ashlyn & Family
