Help Bea Fight for More Time
Fundraising Goal: $10,000
Hi, my name is Angela Vart, and I am a lifelong friend of the Shapiro family—Mom Gina and daughters Deja and Desirae—known throughout the Toronto Beaches community as Doggin' Around Toronto.
For more than 14 years, this wonderful family-owned dog walking business has cared for countless pets with love, compassion, and dedication. They have devoted their lives to caring for animals and supporting families throughout the community. Now, they need our help.
Eight years ago, the family welcomed Bea, a beautiful Potcake dog rescued from Saint Lucia, into their hearts and home. Bea quickly became much more than a pet—she became a cherished family member, loyal companion, and constant source of joy.
Recently, Bea suddenly became seriously ill and was rushed to the Central Toronto Veterinary Referral & Emergency Clinic, where she remained hospitalized for five days. During that time, she underwent extensive testing, monitoring, and treatment as veterinarians worked tirelessly to determine the cause of her illness.
At this time, there is still no definitive diagnosis. Veterinarians believe the issue may be related to Bea's liver, and there is concern that it could potentially be a rare form of liver cancer. The family continues to wait for answers while ensuring Bea receives the best possible care.
Despite the uncertainty, there is reason for hope. Bea was recently strong enough to return home.
As Gina shared:
"Our beautiful girl was well enough to come home tonight! I feel so grateful for this and for any more time that we have. Bea is on a crazy amount of medication and schedule, so I will be taking the next week off to spend as much time as possible with her and making sure she gets all the medication in her. Probably blissfully thinking, or blind faith, but I do feel hopeful at the moment. I'm praying to our Almighty Creator that she will make it through this."
While Bea is now home with her family, she faces an uncertain road ahead. She requires ongoing medications, follow-up appointments, additional testing, and continued veterinary care. The emergency hospitalization and medical expenses have already placed a significant financial burden on the family, with costs continuing to grow as they search for answers.
We are hoping to raise $10,000 to help cover Bea's veterinary expenses and allow Gina, Deja, and Desirae to focus on what matters most—caring for Bea and spending precious time with her.
Anyone who knows the Shapiro family knows how much they have given to the dogs and families of the Toronto Beaches community over the years. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Bea in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, support, and hope during this difficult time. Every donation, share, prayer, and message of encouragement means more than words can express.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Angela Vart
