our documentary on food and identity

"youarewhatyoueat." is an experimental documentary that explores the idea that food isn't fixed; it grows, evolves, and holds memories.
By weaving together a chorus of interviews, we will form an insight into people’s favourite foods; explained through personal trauma, heritage, history, and love. Sometimes the ingredients aren't exact, or the tools aren't perfect, and we want to capture this imperfection.

This documentary is for the lost, the grieving, the hungry, and the dreamers. For those who view food as more than just produce on a plate.

The film will take an abstract approach, with a changing aspect ratio and the sounds of eating, kitchens, and restaurants (without real-world lecturing or statistics).

This is an Independent short documentary, being self funded by our team.

Director: Jose James

This project is a deeply personal exploration for everyone involved, and your support helps us bring this vision to life; capturing the beauty, messiness, and emotional weight food carries.
