Hi, my name is Dr Amrish Krishnan. I am a Nephrologist (kidney specialist) from Fiji. A decade ago I committed my life and career to the care of Fijians and Pacific Islanders suffering from End Stage Kidney Disease. The catalyst in this pursuit was 14 year old Emosi Leucu, who I diagnosed with kidney failure secondary to undetected obstructive uropathy - a child I absolutely refused to palliate even though he couldn't afford treatment. He inspired me to set up a community oriented dialysis center called The Kidney Hub, where he and other children and young adults with kidney failure were able to undergo treatment.

Although we lost Emosi a few years later, his legacy has lived on through countless other patients we have supported over the years. The Kidney Hub currently has many underprivileged Fijians needing life-sustaining hemodialysis three times a week, and at least 6 who are struggling to keep up with dialysis treatment bills. Palliating patients because they cannot afford treatment is the most heart breaking exercise for doctors all over the world - and it certainly isn't easy for me. Your generous contributions will be used to fund ongoing hemodialysis for the 6 dear patients (5 of them in photo above) - Joveci, Asimun, Rashna, Peter, Ashika and Raveen*. With the Fijian government partial subsidy support applied, reaching a fundraising target of AUD100,000 would be sufficient to look after these patients for a year.
