Our Dad’s battle with stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

We haven’t talked much about it so many of our family and friends don’t know… in December my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma, lung cancer. Over the past year he has started feeling bad and had a cough and was given antibiotics for everything. He was having rapid weight loss and only getting worse. Early November we asked for more tests when he just wasn’t getting any better, he was then scheduled for a CT scan on December 10th. That’s when we found out about the lung cancer. He had a 6.6x7 mass in his left lung and several smaller masses in his right lung. He hasn’t worked since then. By 01/08 he was admitted to ICU with shortness of breath and weakness. He was in ICU for 10 days. Come to find out he had fluid around his heart that was compressing it and we almost lost him. He was rushed to the cath lab to drain the fluid. This was the first time he had ever had anesthesia or had any procedure done at all. In that hospital stay he also had a lung biopsy and a pericardial window to keep the fluid from building up around his heart again. He has been in and out of the hospital since then with weakness, shortness of breath and AFIB. He had a PET scan on February 6 that showed he has cancer in both lungs, in his lymph nodes and in his bones (left 11th rib specifically). The lung mass is now 7.1x8.8. He will get a picc line this week (02/20/25) and start chemo next Tuesday 02/25/25. He will have chemo once every three weeks for four treatments.
He will not be able to return to work. My mom is doing all that she can to continue to work as much as possible but she is his full time care taker. She is literally an Angel. She takes care of it all and is handling this the best she knows how. It will be a rough couple of months for everyone and every little bit will help tremendously. We ask for prayers, we all believe in the power of prayer and we need all that we can get! Thank you all so much!
