Our Dad Rays battle with Motor Nueron Disease

Hi ,we are Emma and Fiona Pollard and we are fundraising for our dearly loved Dad Ray Pollard.

Our dad, who is a young and vibrant 67-year-old, has recently been diagnosed with bulbar-onset motor neuron disease (MND). This devastating news has changed all of our lives, and sadly, it’s meant he’s had to stop working much earlier than he ever expected. As anyone who knows our Dad will know he never stops! Always on the go!

Before his symptoms began, he was a very talented drummer but unfortunately as his symptoms progressed he had to stop doing what he loved doing the most! He was also a very hard working truck driver and drove for years making many friends along the way,but unfortunately he is unable to work. Before his diagnosis himself and his partner had planned to travel around France in a camper van,something that we would love to make happen for him while he is still well enough. With time now limited, we are determined to make that wish come true and create unforgettable memories together while we still can. Alongside this, we face the need to adapt his home and car to meet his changing needs, and we’re preparing for the financial and emotional challenges ahead. Any support, no matter how small, will help make this journey a little easier and give our dad the love, comfort, and dignity he deserves. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Bulbar-onset MND is a form of motor neuron disease that first affects the muscles responsible for speaking, swallowing, and breathing. Our dad began experiencing these symptoms, leading to his diagnosis and the difficult reality that he had to stop working. As the disease progresses, it can impact mobility and independence, which is why we’re seeking support to help adapt his home and car, manage care needs, and make his dream trip to France a reality while we still have time.
