Support for Obed's last journey to his family

On September 24th our beloved chef/friend/brother/hermano/carnal, Obed Telix Rifa, passed away peacefully with close friends by his side. One week prior he tragically suffered a heart attack at the end of his shift. The doctors at Lenox Hill did everything in their power to try and revive him but sadly he couldn’t hold on. He went peacefully with loved ones by his bedside to quell any fear he may have had. He was not alone.

He was only 36 years young and in good health, so needless to say it was extremely premature, unexpected and unforeseen. We are all devastated.

In addition to all those who loved him in the States, Obed also leaves behind a son and mother who reside in Mexico that he was supporting with his work here. They are beyond shattered at his loss. Obed worked tirelessly for his family and always did so with such pride and exuberance. They depended on him and he always came through for them. They need us now.

Please help us to raise the funds necessary to send Obed’s body back home to his nearest and dearest in Mexico. It is very important for them to be able to say their goodbyes as they lay their beloved son/ father to Rest In Peace.

In Mexican culture, it is common to do what is called the "Novenario". For 9 days the loved ones of the deceased will pray the soul of the beloved family/friend which is a crucial part of the person’s ascension to Heaven.

We will be hosting a memorial on the 9th day, October 2nd from 12pm-4pm at Osteria 57 to get together and prepare the traditional spicy foods of Mexico that Obed loved to make. All proceeds will go to Obed’s family to help ease their pain and suffering as well as help give them the financial security that he had been providing.

En Septiembre 24 nuestro querido chef,amigo,hermano y carnal, Obed Telix Rifa, murió pacíficamente con sus amigos mas cercanos por un lado. Una semana anterior trajicamente el sufrio un paro cardiaco al terminar su dia laboral. Los doctores de el hospital Lenox Hill hicieron todo lo que pudieron e trataron de revivirlo pero desafortunadamente el no pudo soportarlo mas.

Se fue en paz con sus amigos mas cercano a su lado, para apollarlo con cualquier miedo que el alla pudiera tener. El no estava solo cuando murio.

Tan solo tenia 36 anos, el era muy joven aun y con buena salud. No hay nesecidad de decir que fue extremadamente prematuro, inesperado y dificil de entender. Todos estamos debastados.

Posterioremente para todas las personas que lo quisimos en este pais, Obed tambien dejo un hijo y mama que viven en Mexico. Esa misma familla que estaba mantenniendo con el trabajo que ejercia aqui. Su familia esta mas que debastada, por su perdida. Obed trabajava hasta el cansancio por su familia y siempre hiso eso con orgullo y passion por lo que le gustava hacer. La familla dependiia de el y el siempre estuvo para ellos. La familla nos necessita ahora mas que nunca.

Por favor ayudanos a recaudar fondos para inviar a Obed a su querida tierra natal de Acapulco, Guerrero Mexico. Para la familla es muy emportante darle el ultimo adios y darle Cristiana sepultura.

En el dia 9 de Octubre, Osteria 57 organizara una despedida donde vamos a ofrecer la tipica comida picante que a el tanto le gustava. Todo lo que se recaude sera para ayudar a su familla con los gastos necesario para mandarlo a su pais.
