Our Cancer Journey: Getting started
Donation protected
We've weathered everything that 2020 has thrown our way so far. This Fall it became apparent that something was wrong with Michael's health. There was a hard lump where a lymph node should be nestled under his jaw. After a bunch of blood tests ruled out the usual suspects we figured it was probably lymphoma...easy to treat, without too much interference. Okay, we can handle that. Whats next? Then after waiting what felt like ages to get insurance to approve biopsies and scans, we learned there was an unseen mass hiding deep within his face....eating away at the tissues and structures around it. It's cancer, and not an easy lymphoma. So far we know that Michael has a carcinoma, but need more tests to determine what type and more scans to see just how far it has gotten. We know it has at least spread to the lymph nodes that swelled up under his chin and along his neck (thanks to the first scan which showed the mass and biopsies that found carcinoma cells in the lymph tissue.) Now during the last month of this dumpster fire of the year, we finally have been assigned to a cancer team. We still have so many more tests, scans, and procedures to get through as soon as possible before the treatment can even be lined up. If all goes as smooth as possible, we may be able to start treatment a few days before new year. 2021 will hold so much. We were told to expect around 7 weeks maybe more of radiation and chemotherapy dependent on the full body scan results. Michael is going to be wiped out. He is our bread winner. He says he will work as long as he can. Eventually he will have to stop so his body has enough energy to sustain treatment. That's where this fund comes in. These bills add up fast. We have insurance, but this timing is not in our favor. The out of pocket maximum turns over with the new year. All these tests, scans, specialists, and procedures happening over the last few months and through December are still below our max....so it's coming from our account...all at once. Then it's going to happen again right after new year, when Michael will likely be exhausted quickly and have to stop working. We will have to pay out of pocket from zero all over again. This fund is to help us cover rent, and bills and co-pays that we'll not have a steady income to support soon. To reach our goal would mean zero financial worries through Spring. So even a small chunk of that is going to make a big difference. If we hit 1500, that's rent and utilities for a month. If we hit 3000 that's this year's cancer expenses covered. (Our single person out of pocket is 3800 per year but we've already paid around 800 toward that) if we hit 5000, that's 2020 covered and a month of rent and utilities covered. If we hit 7000, that's all the cancer expenses covered for this winter and through 2021 treatment. If we hit that magical 10,000. That gives us 2 months of not having to worry about rent and utilities and medical expenses while Michael is fighting to thrive through treatments. We're hopeful for that fabled Christmas miracle this winter. If you're looking to make a big difference for a family in their time of need, please consider us. Please help!
