On Wednesday June 10th, our beloved friend and brother gained his wings. Michael Najera had hernia surgery on the 3rd of June and unfortunately formed a blood clot in his leg. On June 9th about 10:15AM, his sister Christyl, called EMS. Upon arriving at Glen Falls Hospital he had coded and paramedics performed CPR for 30 min. The clot in his leg turned into Pulmonary Embolism meaning the clot moved into his lungs. Within a few hours the clot moved over to his left ventricle of his heart, completely blocking any blood from pumping through his body, and was put on life support. The doctors put him on a clot buster and hoped for the best. The family had received a phone call at 2:20AM informing them that things were taking a turn for the worst. Michael's liver began to fail and he soon lost all ability to respond to the doctors. They began cooling his body to try and decrease the amount of work Michael's organs had to put in. A cat scan and EEG determined that due to the 30 minutes of CPR, Michael only had about little to no brain activity. Family and Friends soon came to the hospital to see him because they feared the worst. At 11AM June 10th, doctors declared him brain dead. The family discussed his wishes of Organ Donation with the hospital team. The family went home around 8/9PM that night thinking everything would go smoothly with the donations but unfortunately 2:20AM the next morning Michael's heart had stopped.
The family has had a year of extremely unfortunate events. Within the past year the family had lost 5 family/close friends and a pet of 17 years. On September 6th of 2019, Michael's grandfather passed away of multiple health problems. The family had and still has a very hard time grieving his loss. Since then, finances have been tighter than they would like. After sitting and discussing arrangements with the funeral home, the family has decided to have a viewing and to have him cremated.
Michael Angel Najera, 26, was survived by his mother Christina Brewer of Queensbury; father Julian Najera of San Diego; sister Chrishenda Bose; sister Christyl Bouford; brother Julian Najera; brother Joshua Najera; grandmother Florence Sain; grandmother Elisa Najera; niece Amanda(12); niece Abigail(10); niece Lindsey(4); Evalina(3); nephew Tony(1); and MANY MANY AMAZING FRIENDS!! Michael was an all around great guy who would give his shirt off his back to you if you were in need. There isn't a number to express how many lives he has touched in his 26 years. If you ask anyone they would tell you that he was one of a kind!
Funds are very tight and they have to put out the money not only for the funeral service but for medical as well. Funeral Expenses are estimated at $10k while medical bills are around $250k Unfortunately he did not qualify for health insurance due to him getting furloughed. Around $260k are left with Christina Brewer to pay out of pocket.
Funeral Services will be held at 5PM-7PM Tuesday June 16th at Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home of Queensbury, NY. Flowers will be accepted.
