Hello everyone!
Gosh, this feels so hard to reach out to our community and ask for help! We all know how loved and supported Axl is and we’re so incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received over his three years here on earth.
As a lot of you know, Axl is medically complex- with this comes so many layers.
So far Axl has been diagnosed with so many different conditions however his growth rate and his mobility limitations are unknown,
He seems to be growing at super speed!
He’s 32-35kg, 114cm and only three years old. Axls not yet walking on his own, he’s able to walk assisted- however he still needs a walker, wheelchair or pusher for when we have appointments and hospital/therapy visits or just in general when we go out. He’s heavily reliant on assistance and lifting him, guiding him and explaining where he’s going and what he’s doing. We have limited space in our current car however it’s not only dangerous for us to be lifting him into the car, given the lack of space and his weight and height but also it’s a massive risk to Axl if we do hurt him trying to accommodate the lift to get him in the car. With his vision impairment and compromised movement on his left arm it makes it really stressful for Axl as he suspects the tension and danger.
This can be a really hard navigation to calm him down while trying to quickly but safely lift him (when he’s only 10kg heavier then his mum) without busting our backs or dropping or hurting him of course. Not to mention we can’t possibly fit all of his equipment in the car along with a pusher, wheelchair and our other babies pram or capsule.
January 2024 we got a new car with the intentions that it would last Axl for years to come, however Axls rapid growth rate has really taken us by surprise.
Unfortunately, now we need to buy a bigger car. A disability accommodating vehicle which can fit all Axys equipment and a safer option- potentially with a ramp or side access to step into to prevent injury.
It’s a tricky situation, there’s not a lot known about his complexity of the condition he has that affects his mobility and growth so we weren’t suspecting these challenges.
We’re in the process of saving, selling our small suv and looking for a better suited van or people mover.
If you’re able to, any support, advice, donations or sharing this would be so appreciated. We know times are so incredibly tough right now. Being on a carers payment for Axl there’s not a lot of options surrounding these financial hiccups that genuinely will make such a big difference to getting Axl safely around in the future. We’ve not had luck finding any finance lenders that will let us borrow on a government income.
Axls dad works so hard unfortunately these things are out of reach trying to keep up with everyday bills and expenses.
Absolutely anything at all would be so appreciated, thank you so much for your love support and time to read this x
