As many of you know, on June 23rd, lives were changed profoundly. Ben suffered a broken neck and severe damage to his spinal cord after diving into a swimming pool. He was placed on a ventilator, and endured a seven-hour surgery the following day. The report after the surgery - there are no responses from mid-chest down. Quite an unimaginable report for a close knit family of 3 to hear and process. Family members and friends have gathered around Ben, Katie - his wife, and Rylie his 11 year old daughter to pray and lend support.
At this point in time, Ben does not have health insurance and in order to be released to a reputable rehab facility, they are required to pay 30 days up front . Estimated cost is $1,900 per day, that $57,000, just for the initial 30 days.
Ben is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco, TX. He has communicated through a white board, he is DETERMINED to fight and regain as much as mobility as possible, he wants to be able to dance with his wife and daughter. This GoFundMe page has been set up to cover the cost of Ben’s rehabilitation and other medical expenses.
While the initial prognosis was dismal, Ben has been diligently working to regain his strength. He has been able to breathe on his own for periods of time without the ventilator. The goal is to wean him off in the next few days. He is sitting up for several hours in a neuro chair in preparation for his intense physical therapy – 3-6 hours a day, 6 days a week.
Ben, Katie, and Rylie are so appreciative of the love and support of so many friends and family members. They know they have a long journey ahead however, they know the love and support will get them through one day at a time.
Time is critical for Ben to begin his rehab in order to gain as much mobility back as possible. He is determined and motivated. Please consider a donation so can he concentrate on moving forward.
