Larry Louis was born on February 14th, 1977. He was the love of my life and would later marry me in August 2007. He inherited an auto-immune disease called Lupus. The Lupus became active when Larry was 16 years old. The Lupus ceased his kidneys, swoll his joints and left him in constant pain. He would be fighting to preserve his life for many years to come. In the meantime, his mother, Mercedes “Isabella” Mora worked tirelessly to find Larry a kidney donor to save his life. Shortly after finding him a kidney, Isabella would succumb to breast cancer.
Euridici “Nini” Perez Mora proved to be a match and traveled from Dominican Republic to donate her kidney to her cousin, Larry. Larry took care of this kidney by managing his diet, drinking herbal cleansers and frequently educating himself on how to keep his kidney healthy. This kidney saved his life for an additional 4 years until it rejected. Larry, once again, Larry was back in the fight for his life needing another kidney. Given the rarity of his blood type finding a matching kidney would prove to be difficult. Nonetheless, Larry persisted with maintaining a good diet and taking all prescribed medications. He also insisted on working despite dealing with a fluctuating blood pressure. Providing for his family was a non-negotiable for my husband.
(Little did he realize, the fluctuating blood pressure was a sign of a declining heart which would eventually clot a vessel to the brain & give him an ischemic stroke. This stroke later partially blinded him in one eye and impeded his speech.)
His organs were slowly shutting down manifesting itself into painful callused feet (a precursor for the gangrene) and hemorrhaging in his gastrointestinal tracts.
For the remaining 7 out of the 12 years of our marriage, I helplessly watched my husband’s health decline. I watched the prescription medications pile up, doctors appointments pile up and bared the brunt of bad news from doctors. Despite his health challenges, Larry undeniably put us (his family) on a pedestal. He went above and beyond for us fighting to make it to every performance, dinner, family celebration and turning on a comical movie for us to watch together. He didn’t let his sickness hinder the time that he spent with his family.
But on July 24th, at 10:20pm, the combination of the COVID-19 and a gangrene infection on both feet advanced his already poor health. Larry Louis lost his battle to live. He was a devoted father and husband. He treated me like royalty and that I will never see such a display of love again in my life. Could you please help his family and I give him a loving and respectable funeral that will honor his life? On behalf of Larry and his family, we thank you all in advance for your donation. Be blessed.
