Our Beautiful Little Bun Peachy - Vet Bills & Continued Care

Donation protected
Hey friends, Sarah and Darren here.

It feels strange for us to be writing this because we really hate asking for help and always try and do what we can by ourselves. But we’ve reached a point where we need to put that pride aside.

Our rescue bunny, Peachy Perez (aka George, aka Baby), is really, really sick. She’s been diagnosed with E. cuniculi, which has spread to her kidneys and has now led to kidney failure. She's currently hospitalized and being treated by the best exotic vet we know, Dr. Sari Kanfer. We're doing everything we can for her, but it’s an incredibly expensive journey.

Peachy is worth every single penny and more. But after months of unexpected expenses - both vet-related and not - we’re struggling. Because of her pre-existing condition (advanced heart disease, likely caused by the horrific conditions she was rescued from), she couldn’t be insured. So here we are, doing something that makes us feel a little uncomfortable: asking for help.

Everything happened so suddenly. Just last week she was zooming around the house, gobbling up her favorite treats, binkying like mad, and being her happy little self. Then, out of nowhere, she became lethargic, stopped eating and drinking, started shivering...and now we’re here. She hasn’t peed in days, and the fluids we’ve given her have gone straight to her heart, causing it to enlarge and fill with fluid, and making her heart condition much worse. Right now, we don’t even know if she’ll make it through the night - but we’re holding onto hope with everything we’ve got that she’ll start to turn a corner (and bless us with some much-needed pee!).

At the moment, her vet bill is sitting at $4,530 (high total), and it may climb if she needs more tests or imaging, which is most definitely possible.

Peachy is our angel bun and came into our lives just after we lost our beloved baby of 12 years, Tippy. She brought light back into our home when it felt impossibly dim. She’s the tiniest thing with the biggest personality, and somehow she manages to make the worst days feel bearable. Her “husbun”, Mr. Pickles, misses her terribly - he’s so confused without her.

Peachy’s start in life was truly horrific. She was rescued from a filthy shed at a stables in Glendale, discovered by a local woman. The space was filled with mud, feces, and birds - and tragically, her tiny sibling was found dead beside her. Somehow, by sheer miracle, Peachy survived those awful conditions. When our dear friend Cat, who runs Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue, reached out to us about her, we didn’t hesitate. We arranged a visit immediately. The moment we sat down, she began nibbling our toes and licking our hands - and just like that, we were completely smitten.

Despite everything she’s been through, Peachy is one of the most affectionate souls we’ve ever met. She showers everyone she meets with kisses and love. It’s unbelievable how a creature who was failed and abandoned by the worst kind of humans can still offer so much warmth and trust.

Any amount you can spare would mean the world to us, and we’re grateful beyond words for your kindness.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
