This is J. Goldstein and I. Estes and we are friends and roommates going to school together. We lived together in an apartment in New Jersey up until the night of May 22nd, when our apartment complex caught fire. It's believed that the fire started outside of the building, then spread to the complex itself. Everyone made it out unscathed, and we grabbed a few precious belongings, but that is about all we have left. Our home is uninhabitable, and our apartment got the worst of the fire damage, with the entire back wall having been burned away. The flames engulfed the kitchen and the living room pretty extensively, but seemed to not have reached the bedrooms.
However, it's unlikely that we'll be able to reclaim the rest of our belongings, as those of which that weren't damaged by the fire hoses lie beneath the rubble of a collapsing roof and on top of an unstable floor, which might be getting worse by the day.
What we're asking for is funds to help us get through this difficult time and get back on our feet. We plan to use the funds to buy new clothes, footwear, food for the next month or so, and perhaps money to replace some of the essential (and expensive) art supplies that we acquired for our college classes. In the event that we're able to find a new apartment that will take us on short notice, funds will also be used to acquire new furniture (such as beds, chairs, desks, and tables, all of which were lost in the fire or are buried beneath rubble), acquire new cooking supplies, stock up on groceries again, and help us pay our deposit and first month's rent while we recover from the experience and figure out where we'll each be working for now. We have already put in a great deal of leg-work applying for work and apartments to live in, but seeing as almost everything we owned will need to be replaced, it would be nice to have a safety net to fall back on.
We're looking for about $2,000 in funds, hopefully within the next month or so, in order to cover the above costs. If you're unable to spare anything, that is completely understandable, we just ask that you spread our links to this campaign in the hopes that more people will see it. Every dollar really makes a difference here.
Also, if you would rather donate to us directly, we've provided a link to our PayPal that you can use to support us .
Thank you all so much for your love and support in this difficult time for us. We may be starting over, but it's comforting to know we won't be doing it alone.
