Von Hippel–Lindau disease (VHL) is a rare genetic condition that causes tumours and cysts to grow in different parts of the body. These can develop in the brain, spine, eyes, and other vital organs. While some tumours are benign, their location and growth can lead to serious, life-altering complications. There is currently no cure, only ongoing monitoring, surgeries, and treatment to manage the disease as it progresses.

For George's family, VHL isn’t just something that is read about, it’s something lived with every day.

For George, his wife, Charli, is the definition of a VHL Warrior. She is by far the strongest person he knows despite currently facing multiple brain tumours, spinal tumours, and growths behind her eyes. She shows amazing perseverance while living in pain. Charli is a true inspiration everyday and she is the best role model for their daughter, Seali.

Seali, has also been diagnosed with VHL too.

That’s why we are running the Ottawa Marathon.

Every mile we run is for Char. For Seali. For the strength she shows every single day. And for the hope that one day, families like Georges won’t have to live with the uncertainty and fear that VHL brings.

We are raising raising money to support research, awareness, and better treatment options for VHL. With specific reference to Belzutifan. Belzutifan (brand name WELIREG®) is a first-in-class HIF-2α inhibitor used to treat cancers associated with VHL, including renal cell carcinoma and CNS hemangioblastomas. With more research and funding, the hope is that Belzutifan can become more widely available in the UK.
