OTR Escape - repair of windows damaged during riot
Donation protected
As the looting started in Minneapolis, I began to see people being more angry about the looting than the murder itself. This really bothered me. How can so many people care more about material and replaceable things than a life? But I never thought my feelings would be tested...
On the early morning of May 30th, rioting began in downtown Cincinnati. I am the proud owner of OTR Escape and two of my windows were busted during the riots. What was just on social media now became real for me. So now I not only had the perspective of being an African-American tired of all the injustice that my people suffer just because we have more melanin. I also had the perspective of being an innocent victim of a "violent protest that has nothing to do with Mr. Floyd's murder" as people were saying on social media... And you know what, I was angry. Not about the windows though. But about how people who have endured no personal damage/loss from the riots could be more upset than me. George Floyd's life mattered.
So despite my personal anxiety with self promotion I had to share my perspective, which I did through a Facebook post, and I have been overwhelmed with the love I've received from my post!! I truly appreciate it. Many of you have offered support and suggested that I start a gofundme since insurance will not cover the damages because it was a riot. So again despite my anxiety, I ask for your support to help to replace the windows. The business had just reopened after being closed for almost three months because of COVID-19, so I could really use the support. Please share and give what your heart compels, anything is greatly appreciated!
