OTIS-Help Acapulco get back on it’s feet

My name is Amanda Mendieta! I live in Houston, but my parents, family and friends live in Acapulco.

My hometown was destroyed by Hurricane Otis, hitting our city as a category 5 storm on October 25th. The State of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located, is one of the poorest States in Mexico, which made it a very vulnerable location to receive such destructive winds.

The whole city of Acapulco suffered horrible damages, leaving most people without a home or if lucky, with unimaginable losses. There is not one person that I have heard of that was not affected in some degree by this ferocious hurricane.

People are starving and very thirsty, lining up on the streets to receive whichever help is sent! I personally know several people, that have lost everything and had to evacuate their families, to ensure the safety of their kids. There are still several areas without water or electricity after 10 days of Otis hitting our city.

Acapulco will need a lot of help from everyone to recover from this catastrophe. My heart aches to know what thousands of people are going through in my home town, and my hope is to give back as little or as much as I can with your help.

The needs are so extensive, that it has been overwhelming to decide where to send the help.

I decided to raise funds to help a very special person in our family that has lost everything. Cristina has been working with my parents for over 14 years. She is like family to us. The community where she lives was one of the most affected areas near Acapulco, San Isidro. It is a very low income community which made them very vulnerable to this natural disaster.

Cristina’s roof blew off completely during the hurricane , leaving them without shelter and with all their possessions destroyed.

My hope is to try and raise $1500 for her family, so that they can have a head start in recovering everything they lost.

Anything I can raise above this amount, will be used to purchase food, water and other basic needs to send to the most vulnerable communities. I have friends and family in Acapulco that are actively helping, and will reach out to see where the help is needed, so that it can be used where it is needed the most.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart, with anything you can send to help this cause. It has been a very heartbreaking situation, and I feel guilty for being so blessed when the people from

my community has lost everything. It’s heartbreaking to be so far away when my heart wants to be on the streets helping , but I will do anything I can to try to help from where I am.
