Otis Tolbert memorial and scholarship fund

Donation protected
Otis Vincent Tolbert, beloved friend, son, brother, husband, and father, was killed on September 11, 2001 during the terrorist attacks on America, and upon the Pentagon.  We must not forget the sacrifices of our fallen nor can we let the memory of a friend, son, brother, husband, father and community leader ever be forgotten.

Lieutenant Commander Otis Vincent Tolbert was a long time resident of Lemoore and a 1980 graduate of Lemoore High School where he was more than just an an outstanding athlete - he was a friend to us all. Otis was known for his contagious smile and his great big heart! Many of us called him “Big O”.  He shared a strength with everyone he came into contact with. Otis earned a football scholarship to Fresno State University, and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Criminal Justice. After leaving CSUF, Otis joined the United States Navy  and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander for the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Otis, (also known as "Big O" and "Vince")  was devoted to his family and friends and to his Country.
Otis is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Shari; his three children, Amanda, Brittany, and Anthony Tolbert; his parents, Otis and Nancy Tolbert; and his brothers, Daniel and Chris Tolbert.

In 2004 the Kings County Board of Supervisors approved a section of State Highway Route 198 in Lemoore to be named in honor of the late United States Navy Lieutenant Commander Otis Vincent Tolbert.  We invite all Lemoore residents, Lemoore High School Alum and all American Patriots to join us in our efforts to commemorate Otis’s legacy at Lemoore Union High School and as we work to honor our “BIG O” with an appropriate special designation.  We are asking for donations to complete a memorial which will serve as a fitting tribute in honor and respect to this great man, Otis Vincent Tolbert, who shared a smile, immense pride and great distinction to this community and who gave his life serving his countryman.

Upon receiving donations sufficient to cover the cost of this memorial, any and all remaining funds will go directly to an already established Otis Vincent Tolbert Scholarship Memorial Fund (LUHSD Foundation For Excellence for Otis Tolbert Class of 1980).

Proposed Unveiling for this Memorial is planned for
