Otis James' Medical Expenses
Donation protected
At the beginning of December, Otis' health started to decline rapidly. Acting restless and uncomfortable, his mom immediately had him evaluated at an emergency clinic in Arizona. After extensive diagnostics, they discovered that Otis had fluid accumulation surrounding his lungs, making it difficult and painful for him to breathe. A CT was performed and Otis was diagnosed with a left lung lobe torsion (where part of the lung is folded over on itself). Otis had emergency surgery performed on December 17th to have the affected part of his lung removed and sent out for histopathology evaluation. Otis recovered from surgery, but a week later the symptoms continued with no resolve.
Since this time, Otis has been receiving emergency care at Purdue Veterinary hospital where they have performed many costly life saving procedures and diagnostics. All tests have come back negative and the diagnostics have revealed no answers.
Our best guess right now is that Otis’ pleural effusion is idiopathic in origin meaning we don’t know the cause. There is a chance that Otis will continue to have pleural effusion despite our current therapies. Idiopathic effusions can be painful and challenging to manage. If Otis continues to need frequent drainage of the effusion, he might have a pleuriport placed, which is a device that is implanted under the skin that makes removing the fluid from Otis' chest easier and safer.
As many of you know, Rachelle travels the states with her beloved Otis & new brother, Taos. They live a life full of wonder & new adventures every day. This has been a saving grace to them all. Otis is truly ONE OF A KIND and means the world to his mom. This has been a devastating hit to their family.
Otis’ surgery, diagnostics, and therapies have been extremely costly. With his current health emergency being unexpected and unresolved, we want to support Rachelle with his current & future medical expenses via a Gofund me. Any donation amount will help. We want to give Otis every opportunity we can! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!!
