Hello, we are the Otero La Porte family. My husband, Eddie, was an UBER driver in Austin, TX. He has successfully supported our family these past 3 years and this was our only source of income. We have a 22 month old and one on the way due in January. We are like most American families living and working hard towards our goals.
Everything came to a halt on August 26, 2022 my husband was in an automotive collision. We thank God he walked away with his life, but he did sustain injuries that require medical attention. He is currently working with his doctor 4 times a week to get his full mobility back. Eddie is under doctors orders with limited types of work he is able to do. He is currently looking for jobs that fit those requirements.
The other driver admitted fault immediately to my husband and the attending officer shortly after the collision. We have consulted a lawyer as we do understand we have a strong case, but the settlement is taking time. This waiting period and no work has led to a financial crisis.
Eddie is not disabled enough to qualify for temporary disability. We have applied for government assistance and so far we have received SNAP (Food Stamps) and I'm on WIC, so our food is covered. My husband is donating plasma 2x week to help raise money and we’ve liquidated every item in our home that would sell. We have also borrowed money from family members to help pay bills this past month. We've exhausted every family member, local churches, and government assistance we could think of and October is creeping up on us fast.
We know this is only a chapter in our lives. We have faith that God willing, everything will work out. But, it doesn’t take away the fact that we could be evicted and have no where to go, not even a car to sleep in if we can’t pay the bills for October. Any help will be humbly appreciated.
Our rent is $526, our electric bill is $164, the phone bill is $168 (because we've been behind and on an extension), internet is $183 (also behind) and $200 miscellaneous (diapers and other toiletries).
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and to those that can donate thank you extra much for that blessing.
