Hello, I'm Rax, a Black transmasc (he/xem) who is hoping to start my medical transition journey.
My savings are currently limited as I receive Universal Credit and am employed on a zero hours contract; this would make it unsustainable for me to afford the ongoing costs of check ins and tests, and the costs of the prescriptions. I'm hoping to raise enough to add to the set up fee and the ongoing fees of check ups and tests that will be required later on. My current goal is £840, so please, donate what you can, if you can. The fees will cover the initial consultations with a private provider (I'm looking to use Pride In Health), blood tests, HRT prescription, and ongoing counselling and support.
This is important to me because I feel that I am at danger currently, due to being more visibly trans/queer which could lead to me being hate crimed, especially as a Black person. My GP is not very willing to offer shared care based or a bridging prescription and hopes that I will be seen by an NHS gender clinic within 6 months. I know this is unlikely as I was placed on the waiting list in January and there is a minimum 3 year waitlist. I feel that the support I have received from medical professionals (my GP) has been limited and much like many trans people's experiences, my GP has not been well informed in matters relating to trans people and medical transition, so it's an ongoing fight for me to advocate for myself and receive support; which is why I'd rather cut out the middle man and go for a private clinic who will be better equipped to support my transition.
Thanks for reading and if you are unable to donate, then please spread the word!
