Oskar Owens is a 2016 Lake City High School Graduate who after attending Circle in the Square Musical Theatre Conservatory in NYC and working in NYC, returned to Cd'A to wait out the covid shut downs. Oskar has played (vocals, guitar and piano)at multiple venues in Cd'A, including Cork and Tapp, Seasons, The Eagles and Good Time Tap Room as well as many volunteer charity events and Jam sessions.
Oskar and his friend Lucas Cervantz were on a motorcycle trip they had planned for nearly a year. They were headed to the Oregon Coast. In the early evening of April 28th a drunk driver ran a stop sign onto a state Hwy directly in front of Oskar. Lucas was behind him and managed to swerve out of the way. Oskar haad less than 20-25 feet at 55mph to stop and hit the drivers side of the vehicle head on, projecting him over the vehicle. The Oregon State Patrol indicated Oskar did "everything right" in this situation. He wore full protective gear, was traveling under the speed limit, not tired or impaired, but he stood no chance to avoid a collision in this situation. He was air lifted to a hospital in Portland, where he underwent multiple surgeries. He miraculously sustained no neurological or internal damage. He has sprained ankles, multiple cuts/stitches and bruises, plates in his left arm and a shattered right wrist. HIs arms are to be immobilized for the next few weeks and his right wrist for 6-8 weeks. Following that, a potential additional surgery and months of Pt, OT, rehab work ahead of him. The driver was charged with multiple felonies, including DUI, reckless endangerment and fleeing the scene. Oskar is setting goals of being able to play music again by next holiday season and along with his girlfriend Taylor and family and friends is beyond grateful to be walking, talking (singing) and still with us.
Oskar worked as a Dutch Bros Barista, a bartender and musician. Without having the full use of his arms for at minimum the next 10 moths, any assistance to help him financially to be able to get to medical and therapy appointments etc.. would be humbly, sincerely and deeply appreciated.
Thank you,
Oskar and his parents, Kiki Miller and Craig Owens
