WHY A DOCUMENTARY?

O-Shen has been a musical ambassador for the Pacific islands with his urban island music, blending reggae with rap and traditional tribal chants.

O-Shen grew up in Papua New Guinea, and rose to fame when he became the first person to rap in the pidgin trade language of PNG. Living in Hawaii, his debut album Iron Youth won the coveted Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Reggae Album of the Year in 2001.

Collaborating with popular Hawaiian, Jamaican, and Papua New Guinean artists, O-Shen has had a successful musical career and was a staple in the island music scene for a number of years. His songs have also been featured on television shows and films, such as Adam Sandler’s 50 First Dates.

His music explores different cultures, languages, and social issues, as well as his many unique life experiences, including the time he spent incarcerated in a Washington state prison.

He is a fascinating character, which makes him the perfect subject for a feature length documentary film.
OUR GOAL

Our aim is to raise $85,000 to produce this documentary. This covers the crew, time, and equipment needed, as well as travel and accommodation expenses for filming in Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, and the US Pacific Northwest!

We hope to submit the film to a wide variety of film festivals around the world, and make the film available on major online platforms by 2023.PRODUCTION COMPANY
