O’Shaun's Fight Against Severe AVM
Donation protected
It all began like a typical Sunday date night for my grandson, O’Shaun Mitchell-Kirby, and his girlfriend were hanging out at her place. He suddenly complained of a headache and started sweating. She went to get him water, thinking it would help him cool down, and upon returning, she noticed he was foaming at the mouth and having a seizure. This is the day our lives took a dramatic turn. My daughter was called, and we all met at the emergency room. We were dealing with a healthy 19-year-old wide receiver for PC North, a graduate of 2024. He was rushed by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. As a grandmother, the news we received from the doctor was devastating, heartbreaking to say the least. How could this be? A perfectly healthy 19-year-old Fortnite champ, so he says, lol, now requires emergency surgery. What we found out is that he was born with AVM, which means an arteriovenous malformation, an abnormal connection between arteries and veins, usually in the brain or spine, and his was unfortunately in the brain. Although the doctors gave us a bleak outcome and had us thinking that might be our last time to see him alive, because the AVM was a very severe case, let me say God kept him. We are now faced with fighting off pneumonia, a staph infection caused by the breathing tubes, and regulating his body temperature. Eventually, a trach had to be placed to remove the tubes and prevent further infections, making it easier to suction. But God is good, and God is in the blessing business. Every day, we are making strides. This has been three weeks in, and we still have a long way to go. We will be faced with months of rehab, but in Jesus' mighty name, we have faith, trusting and believing that God will prevail and make a way financially. We are just trusting and believing in God for a financial breakthrough, a financial miracle. We have a two-parent family, but we have the father who lives in Texas, and the mom who lives here and has been at the hospital 24/7 with her son. She has had to change her training dates multiple times for a new job just to be able to be there with her son through this ordeal. Although some family has helped us financially, this is something above us. O’Shaun is the youngest of 4. We are thanking you in advance for your blessings financially to help with O’Shaun’s recovery and get him back to normalcy and to help with the bills that my daughter is faced with. Thank you, and God bless you.
