Osei Kuffour – also known as Okumo. LEGEND. FATHER. KING.

On June 16, 2025, our father, Osei Kuffour – known to many as Okumo – passed away.

But this wasn’t just anyone.

This was a king.

A pioneer. A voice. A giver.

Okumo was a living legend in the Afro-German community. In Bremen, in Hamburg, across Germany and beyond – people knew him. Not because he demanded attention, but because he showed up. He helped countless people: with papers, with housing, with hope. He opened doors for others while asking for nothing in return.

He wasn’t perfect – no man is. He could be loud, stubborn, passionate. But his heart was always in the right place. When he loved, he loved deeply. And when he gave, he gave fully.

The last years were difficult. He battled with heart, lung, and kidney issues, diabetes, and more. Yet even on the day before he passed, he was present – laughing, talking, still standing. Until his body couldn’t hold on any longer.

As a family, we have come together and decided: he will be laid to rest in Ghana, next to his mother, in the land that raised him.

The brothers and extended family in Ghana are taking care of the full burial, including the coffin, grave, and local arrangements.

But before we send him home, we want to honor him here, in the country where he lived for decades and impacted so many.

We are organizing a memorial service in Germany – a space for friends, loved ones, and community members to say goodbye.

This fundraiser will help cover the costs of that farewell: the viewing, the memorial, logistics, and associated expenses.

We have adjusted the donation goal to reflect that. The money raised here is not for the burial in Ghana – it’s for the last goodbye we give him here, together.

Am 16. Juni 2025 ist unser Vater, Osei Kuffour – oder wie viele ihn nannten: Okumo – von uns gegangen.

Wer ihn kannte, weiß: Das war nicht irgendjemand.

Das war ein König.

Ein Pionier. Eine Stimme. Einer, der gegeben hat, ohne etwas zurückzuverlangen.

Okumo war eine lebende Legende in der afrodeutschen Community. In Bremen, Hamburg, ganz Deutschland – und darüber hinaus.

Menschen kannten ihn nicht, weil er sich in den Vordergrund drängte – sondern weil er da war, geholfen hat, Türen geöffnet hat. Für viele.

Er war nicht fehlerfrei – kein Mensch ist das.

Aber sein Herz war groß. Und wenn er geliebt hat, dann ganz. Wenn er gegeben hat, dann mit allem, was er hatte.

Die letzten Jahre waren schwer: Herz, Lunge, Diabetes, Nieren – viele Baustellen.

Und trotzdem war er noch da – redend, lachend, aufrecht – bis zum Tag davor.

Als Familie haben wir gemeinsam entschieden: Er soll in Ghana beerdigt werden, in der Nähe seiner Mutter, dort, wo seine Wurzeln sind.

Die Brüder und Verwandten vor Ort kümmern sich um alles – den Sarg, die Grabstelle, die Beerdigung.

Aber bevor wir ihn auf seine letzte Reise schicken, wollen wir ihm hier in Deutschland einen Abschied ermöglichen.

Einen Moment der Erinnerung. Für alle, die ihn kannten. Für die Community. Für Freunde, Wegbegleiter, Nachbarn.

Diese Spendenaktion dient daher ausschließlich dem Abschied hier vor Ort:
