Help Save Oscar Waldo

On July 30th at 7am my little baby Oscar Waldo woke up in my arms abruptly. He was foaming at the mouth. He was having a seizure. I had no idea because
he'd never had one before but I knew something was very wrong when the foaming went on for too long. I wrapped him in a towel and ran to catch a cab up tothe Animal Medical Center. Thank God a cab stopped and off we went. With Oscar's little head cradled in the crook of my arm, his eyes sayingMommy I love you and trust you, help me, and his little ears back I thought OMFG what the F**K is happening and why isn't this cab a helicopter.
They ushered us into a room where a nurse came in asking me his age and suggested he was having a seizure. She took him away through the swinging doors back where the doctors are busy saving lives, including Oscar's. The resident came in and told me it was serious. She told me they couldn't get him to stop seizing. I was in shock. He was a perfectly healthy dog and every time she spoke it went from bad to worse. She told me all the MANY things that could go wrong while having me fill out papers asking questions like, if he dies do I want them to resuscitate him and how many times. I had choices. 1, 2 or 3 times. All different methods that would grand total 10k and Oscar could still be floating up to heaven regardless. I had no answer. I asked for some water and kept saying this can't be happening. It was a bad dream and I'll wake up soon and he'll be lying in my arms sleeping and hugging me with his little paws. But it was happening. At some point I did say I don't care if you have to fly him to the f**king moon just do what you have to do to help him.
.She left the room for a long while and returned to inform me that they still couldn't stop his seizures. At this point I thought I was going to have a seizure of my own. Finally she told me they got him under control but remembered to remind me again on how long it took.
I was told Oscar had an inoperable brain tumor and that the prognosis was death. I started reading obsessively about Gliomas ,the type of tumor he has. They kill people too.
I kept seeing one doctor's name pop up for doing clinical trials to look for a cure. I wrote to her and sent Oscar's MRI and she called to tell me that he is a perfect candidate for an operation that she's performed on 200 dogs to remove these tumors and get dogs into remission with excellent quality of life and only 5 have died. I grilled her like the Spanish Inquisition because I would never do anything that would hurt Oscar and I needed to be convinced that his personality would stay the same and that he wouldn't suffer for one second . I even asked for written proof and this woman is the real deal.
She is the only surgeon in the entire country doing these special surgeries. I found a needle in a haystack. He's only 4 years old and is still running jumping, playing barking and being Oscar and he can continue on for years to come with the success of this treatment. This work is helping to find a cure for humans with the same deadly brain tumor, so Oscar will also be a hero!
Oscar is on seizure meds now and thankfully is stable , but time is of the essence. He's scheduled for surgery on September 11th in Minneapolis, we need to hurry and make this happen now!
This is a summary of what they are doing and who supports these efforts: "The goal of the Canine Brain Tumor Clinical Trial Program is to offer cutting edge therapy to dogs intended to preserve quality of life and improve long-term survival rates. Additionally, we will use the information gained from treating dogs to design similar treatments for people with brain tumors. The majority of the cost associated with these experimental brain tumor therapies is paid for by grants from foundation and government agencies including the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund, the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, the American Brain Tumor Association and the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation."
The Go Fund Me is so that I can continue to get Oscar all of the care he needs because there are still plenty of costs involved with all of this and the outgoing money for Oscar's care has been flowing out faster than a $1000 water faucet.
Miracles do happen! Please give what you can, every dollar counts, and please just pray for Oscar. You don't need to be religious to pray. You can even pretend if you'd like and just affirm Oscar's good health to the air and clouds. Blessed be, amen, or hallelujah, it doesn't matter as long as it's positive energy with loving intention. Please send some my way too because I need it. I am so very grateful for all of the love and support I have received from my incredible friends and family and am also grateful for the doctors who saved Oscar's life. Oscar makes people smile. Hes a special little guy with a very quirky personality. I love him with all my heart. Thank you so much for reading this.
