Fight & HOPE: Oscar Ortiz
Donation protected
Sunday, August 7th at 12:33 pm a call was made to 911 by Jasella Ortiz. Little did she know that she would not be only known as Daddy's little girl, but also his angel, his life saver, his hero.
Oscar Ortiz was out shopping that day with his 9 year old daughter Jasella. He was buying gifts for a surprise birthday party he had set up later that evening for his fiancé, Carrie. After their shopping was done and on their way home, Oscar tells his daughter that he wasn't feeling too well. At that time he pulls over and suffers a total of 4 seizures. While her Father was going through convulsions and blood pouring out of his mouth, Jasella was brave enough to stay calm and call 911.
Oscar was immediately rushed to Christiana Hospital and transported to ICU. At this time his on going battle had just begun. A cat scan was performed on Oscar in which the results provided that he unfortunately had a brain tumor. Major setbacks were now coming into play. Oscar then suffered from brain swelling, liver failure, kidney failure, a very high fever, high blood pressure, chest infection, fluids in his lungs, and many more complications at this time. All of those things had nothing to do with the brain tumor itself and doctors had no idea why all these things were occurring. ICU had a new name for Oscar, and it was the "Mystery Man".
Multiple MRI's were completed throughout his stay at the hospital. Until the other setbacks Oscar was going through got better, he wouldn't be able to get to the next process which was surgery. Days had finally passed by in which things were starting to turn for the better. The surgeon advised it was time to now perform the surgery to remove the brain tumor. Biopsy results are still currently waiting as Oscar now is set up for multiple treatments with multiple doctors, chemotherapy, physical therapy, and so much more on this road to recovery.
After 15 days in ICU, Oscar Ortiz is finally back home. He knows this is just the beginning but has fought so much that there isn't such a thing as given up. As he starts his road to recovery not only is he going through physical setbacks, but this will be a financial hardship as well. Insurance isn't covering majority of his 15 day stay, future appointments, chemotherapy, etc. Short term disability is not offered through his employer. He won't be able to return to his employer. This will be a difficult situation for his family financially where his fiancé will be the only source of income. Between his fiancé and himself, they have a total of 4 kids to provide for. The number itself that will take to cover all expenses, not even counting his housing/living expenses are unreachable. We ask for help.
Thankfully an angel in Jasella was brought to this earth. Great parenting from her Mother and Oscar led up to her saving his life that day. We want to keep that fight going for Oscar. We have HOPE, and we will FIGHT. As a family member, a friend, a stranger, or just a person who reads this story, any donation would be accepted. Any amount would be appreciated. Oscar is blessed to be surrounded by so many great people in his life. He wouldn't be able to put into words what this would mean to him and his family.
Thank you for any help you may provide. Thank you for sharing this story. Thank you for fighting with us. Thank you for HOPE! #TeamOKI <3
