My name is Elena Paun and I am a teacher at Oscar Blackburn School in South Indian Lake, Manitoba. I am planning on taking 8 students to participate in the Manitoba Marathon on June 17. We need your help to achieve this goal and attend the race!
This will the second year that our school participates in the Manitoba Marathon. Because of your generous donations last year we were able to travel to Winnipeg and run in the marathon! The students had an amazing time, made new friends from different schools, and for some visited Winnipeg for the first time. They are excited at the opportunity to attend once again!
The children here rarely leave the community and this would be the perfect opportunity for them to explore their beautiful province and make lasting memories. This remote Cree First Nation community is located in Northern Manitoba and the population is around 800 people. We only have one store, one playground, and one school. The community is only accessed by a dirt road via a ferry ride.
There is a lack of afterschool programs for the children to participate in our community. Their involvement in the training for the Manitoba Marathon would be a fantastic afterschool activity which will promote an active lifestyle, boost self-esteem, create a sense of community and teamwork, as well as encourage students to create goals and achieve them. Most importantly they will have fun and make new friends, all in a positive environment!
Without enough funds raised we will not be able to attend this amazing event. The donations will be used for the hotel, food, travel and various activities! The students are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the Marathon but we need your help to make this trip a possibility!
