Oscar Mike Fire Recovery Fund
Donation protected
After 8.5 years a fire in the building has forced our beloved Coffee shop to close.
Early in the morning of 28 October 2020 (the day indoor/outdoor seating for hospitality venues was to resume), one Hawthorn's favourite places to grab a coffee was forced to temporarily shut its doors due to an accidental fire in the building's rubbish room situated directly behind the cafe. While many of Oscar Mike's neighbouring traders have since either resumed trading or remained unaffected, the local coffee shop requires significant structural repairs before it can re-open.
The owner Cavin's primary concern is his dedicated employees and regular customers who have been instrumental in remaining open throughout lockdown since March 2020.
"Insurance isn't covering much of the loss, but we're determined to reopen and resume serving great coffee to Hawthorn." says Cavin. Cashflow has already been an underlying issue over the past 7 months, but even more so since the fire. It's unfair that the business which accidently caused the fire has been able to re-open while our store which has been one of the worst affected and unable to trade for possibly another few months.
Every donation will help us recover from this setback and hopefully speed up the process of getting the coffee shop back in to business. Cavin has dedicated the past 8.5 years to the Hawthorn cafe and its community and hopes to do so for years to come.
