Hello, my name is Charlotte and I have a 16 month old miniature dachshund named Oscar Mayer. He was aggressively hit by a vehicle going entirely too fast through a dark parking lot around midnight Saturday night. The individual driving the vehicle hit him with his front and back tires, then drove away. No cameras caught the incident and I wasn’t able to get a license plate number. Oscar Mayer now suffers from a broken leg, 2 pelvic fractures, deep gashes on his stomach, and has been unable to urinate or defecate for almost 36 hours. The impact of the vehicle may have caused permanent nerve damage in those areas, which is why he now has a catheter in to release his bladder. He is currently being hospitalized over night in order for his bladder/ bowel movements to be closely monitored. We are hoping the nerves are not permanently damaged and there are no further intestinal issues preventing him from releasing stool. Tomorrow morning I am meeting with the surgeon to discuss an immediate surgery for his leg / pelvic bones. I was originally told the bones may heal on their own with a cast/ splint, but I found out today that is not the case. The Medication, X-Rays, Catheter, hospitalization, and the surgery, leaves me with at least $10,000 in medical bills. Witnessing the accident was such a traumatic experience and the doctors keep telling me it’s an absolute miracle he’s alive. Although he’s alive, he is in so much pain and these procedures are crucial in order for him to live a healthy life. Absolutely any donations for Oscar Mayer would help me tremendously.
