On May 29th Oscar Martinez of Alamosa, Colorado, was helping change his mom's brakes on her car, while under the car making sure everything was connected, it collapsed on top of his head. His parents lifted the car enough to pull Oscar out after being trapped for several minutes under the car.  After trying to call 911 to get an ambulance to transport Oscar, they decided it was taking too long, so they rushed him to the emergency room in their other vehicle.  He was diagnosed with severe brain and head trauma. Things were not looking hopeful, as the swelling and bleeding persisted.  Doctors decided he needed to be flown out to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.  When Oscar arrived he was in severe critical condition, it did not look good. By the Grace of God, doctors and your prayers, Oscar made a miraculous recovery in the next 24hour. Doctors were and are still amazed that the bleeding subsided, the swelling diminished tremendously and he was conscious again.  Fast forward, as of Wednesday June 5th Oscar is sitting up, talking, eating a little and able to walk slowly. He has a long road ahead of him for a full recovery, but the good news is he is out of critical state and his in stable condition. The not so good news is Oscar has multiple broken bones throughout his face, his vision is blurry and not 100%, he has at times painful headaches and still has swelling in the face and brain.  He will need many surgeries still, needless to say, including a surgery that was just performed and was successful,  this past Friday to stop some liquid that was coming from his brain to his nasal area, which could have caused meningitis.

Oscar graduated from Alamosa High School in 2017 and was a great student/athlete. He was a several time state champion in cross-country and track.

He is currently attending Adams State University pursuing a degree in business and competed for ASU the past two years.

He is a loving big brother to his younger sisters, a loving son, and great friend to all.  His road to recovery will include hours of physical therapy, multiple surgeries and numerous other procedures. So first and foremost please pray for Oscar's continued road to a healthy recovery. Next, if at all possible please support Oscar while on this journey by contributing any amount of donations for his medical expenses. At this moment he has no medical insurance and with amounting medical bills he and his family need our help so he can just focus on getting healthy again.  With your prayers and financial help Oscar can recover without the stress and worry of finances.  Will you please help this loving son, brother, cousin and friend.

With love and thanks,

Oscar Martinez and Family
