Ortiz's Support for PR fund

We are Jessica and Jorge Ortiz, originally from Arroyo, PR and currently residing in Nashua, NH. Jorge Ortiz is the President and Founder of the Latin Festival of Nashua. This is a non-profit fundraising organization that produces an annual charity Latin festival in the town of Nashua to raise money for a variety of causes.

We we have many family and friends that love in Arroyo, PR where hurricane Maria hit hard and there is currently a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Our goal is to raise money to help with aid. The recipients of the supplies we purchase from your donations will be for family and friends froim our hometown of Arroyo, PR.  The packages will be sent to my husband Jorge Ortiz. He will be hand delivering the supplies with a team that he has put together.

Here is an update on the situation with our family in Puerto, it’s not good!!! Yes everyone is alive and safe but the island is a mess. Our town is destroyed and we have not heard from Jorge’s immediate family. A cousin of his drove an hour away to a town where a cell phone tower has been restored to call him. She said that our family is starting to run out of food any water. These families have 3-4 people to a household and there are children. The supermarkets in our town are destroyed and going to other towns to get necessities is a struggle because there is not much left on the shelves.

The most heartbreaking news she shared demonstrates how desperate people are becoming. Yesterday there was a gasoline truckthat finally made it to our town (an hour away from the capital) there was a tremendous line of people waiting for gasoline and one guy skipped the line and was shot in front of everyone. There were children present and saw it all. I am writing this with tears in my hours and a knot in my stomach.

My husband is relentless and has booked 2 flights on different days and the airline cancelled one of them already. He plans on bringing suitcases of food and supplies but I am also afraid for his safety (if he even makes it to our town) but for him it’s worth the effort!!! I thought of setting up a go fund me page to buy as many supplies to send with him because the USPS is closed so we can’t ship anything there. I don’t know if this is the proper thing to do but I guess I am in panic and desperation mode. I’ve had so many  family, friends and coworkers reach out to me so I figured this could be a way to help if anyone would like to donate. Remember, ANYTHING helps! <3
