When tragedy strikes, it doesn’t always strike alone. After the sudden passing of their beloved daughter Leslie Ortiz in early February, Jose “Pepo” or “Joe” as some of you may know him, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and transitioned to hospice as he mourned the loss of his baby girl. Today, February 24th, just three weeks after, Jose has joined his daughter Leslie to be with the Lord, leaving behind his wife Maria Elisa “Licha”, two sons Jose & Edgar Ortiz, daughters-in-law’s Misty & Carmen Ortiz, son-in-law Josh Lopez, along with 10 grandchildren and many more family members. Jose Ortiz was a devoted man to his family and to God through service at Our Lady of the Valley. He was a pillar in our local community as he coached baseball for many years at East Long Beach (Heartwell) and football for Lakewood Pop Warner. Jose was the 6th of 11 children proudly from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico – he was a huge Dodger fan, the family comedian and will be deeply missed.
Unfortunately, the family was not prepared for one, let alone two losses of a loved one within the immediate family. The emotional & financial burden is overwhelming; we’re humbly asking for donations to provide support to alleviate the family as we grieve the loss of our loved ones. We appreciate all of the support and, most importantly, all the prayers.
