I never in a million years thought I would create a go fund me, but here I am. My family lost everything that couldn’t fit in a Kia Rondo, the night we had to evacuate from the raging Carr Fire, from our home on Iron Mountain Road in Keswick. We were able to take our cat, but my classroom pets had to be evacuated to someone else’s home, during our 2nd evacuation of that night. This is not how we planned our summer to go. Two years ago our house just barely made it through a fire that started on our hill, but this time we were not so lucky. We couldn’t get renter’s insurance because of the fire risk.
The home we lived in is gone, along with all our belongings, including the car my husband used to get to work. We are a hard working family, but not financially ready to rebuild a home or buy a car. I had a great 2 year plan that would have put us in place for building a home and getting a car, but we no longer have 2 years. So we are reaching out for help with covering some of those costs now. We have two children in elementary school and one in college. I teach 4th and 5th grade at the community public school and so many of us are hurting right now. My husband works in a local manufacturing plant.
Life is upside down at the moment. As I type this I can hear my son talking with another child at the campground where we have evacuated. The other child just asked my son, “What are you going to do without a house?”
This is just gut wrenching. Any help you can give us would be appreciated, as we work to get back to normal.
