This last Febuary I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda with my dear friend, Diane Chandler. Both of us have been on a path of spiritual development and personal growth over the last several years. The next natural step on our journey was to give back, and so, our hearts were called to Africa. After exploring our options, spirit divinely guided us to our life long family in Uganda at the Orphans Club.
When arriving to Tororo, Uganda we met Margaret Boogere, who developed love and interest in the plight of the poor and needy people in the community since her childhood. In the early 1990’s the Aids epidemic tore through Uganda and left countless young children orphaned. Margaret was an elementary teacher at the time and could not stand by without trying to help so she created The Orphans Club where children could live and be taken care of by Margaret. What started out with 20 orphans in 1998 has now grown to 150 and rising. She has put 20 of the children through college and all are working back in the community helping others rise with possibility. When I asked Margaret how she was able to care for these orphans her answer was simple, God, faith, and above all LOVE. Diane and I lived at the Orphans Club and it was an experience of a lifetime. Food was minimal and many of the children had never owned a pair of shoes, yet the joy and love we experienced was other worldly. We fell in love with this family…..all of them! The Orphans Club has recently lost their financial support and in need of financial assistance. Without it the children will have to leave the orphanage and will not be able to continue with their education. At this time Diane and I are calling on our network to help support this large family in need, The Orphans Club. Our intention in the upcoming months is to help them become more sustainable and self sufficient, but in the mean time, we are asking all of you to please give what you can to help the Orphans Club remain up and running.
