On April 21, 2026 Orlando Rivas made a split second decision that changed his life and his family's life forever. Orlando sustained a devastating traumatic brain injury as he shielded students he was helping cross the street from a falling pole that had been struck by a car during dismissal at Buffalo Grove High School. In that moment, as in all moments of his life up until now, he thought only of others. Orlando remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life. Orlando's actions were not part of a job description, they were a reflection of the extraordinary courage, selflessness, and care for others that defined the way Orlando lives his life. He has a gift of connecting with everyone he meets so genuinely and with so much infectious joy. He stops at nothing to provide, protect and care for his family and friends. He and his family, who he loved more than anything, need all our support and love right now. Orlando is a hero, not just this past Tuesday, but everyday of his life. The family is grateful for any support you are able to provide as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.
