Orion’s Emergency Treatment

Update (2/26/24): Orion has remained stable, but is continuing hospitalization at Avenue Animal Wellness. He is on day 4 of treatment and so far has been in good spirits. The cause of the liver insult/injury is still unknown. An ultrasound was performed on his liver and gallbladder today, and no major red flags stood out to the doctors. They are keeping him on IV fluids and medication and will update me again tonight on whether or not he has made any progress. The next step, if treatment is not working, would be a liver biopsy, which would cost $5000 on its own. I hope he doesn’t require that…but wanted to give everyone an update. Thank you so much.

Hi, my name is Kailey. You may know me, or you may not, but this is my son and best friend. His name is Orion, or Ori for short. A few weeks ago, he developed chronic bronchitis and has been receiving treatment for that.

At his recheck appointment today, it was found that he is in liver failure, with the likely cause being a toxicity of some sort. We don’t know what caused this—only that it came on quickly. My two options are to try emergency treatment for the next 48+ hours, or euthanize him.

I cannot picture a world in which he isn’t with me for the next few years…he is so strong and such a happy boy. His favourite thing to do is take walks at Coliseum Park. The fountain is his favourite thing there. He likes treats. He likes howling at people while on his walks. He likes to get the zoomies and play. He is really smart and he likes showing you how many tricks he knows.

If you can help with anything, I would appreciate it more than anything in the world.

In the event that I do reach my goal but Orion is unable to turn around, I will be donating the rest to a shelter in memory of him.
