Orion, Our Darling Boy, Has IMPA

Hello, our names are Jan and Genevieve and we're fundraising for the light of our lives, and the reason why we still live and breathe: our dog, Orion. He's 8 years old with a proclivity for mischief, and doesn't know any better. We love him and his stinky face very much, and we need some help. He's been having health issues and there is a mountain of vet bills that we are unable to cover on our own even with our humble analyst jobs.

We finally got a diagnosis today and he has IMPA (Immune-Mediated Polyarthritis) which is an autoimmune disease that targets his joints, and is not curable - but manageable. On top of this, he also ruptured his left patella and will need surgery but, unfortunately, we are unable to cover all the costs of his upcoming surgery as we are still paying off the remaining of his vet bills from last December, which is still around $5k.

One of us cancelled their trip to Japan this year, and will look into taking out part of their RRSP to cover at least half of the costs. We have not received an estimate for the total costs, but we would imagine it would roughly come to $10k, if not more. We have pet insurance, but because this is a condition that existed before we started paying the premium, they have stipulated time and time again that they will not pay for any of the bills relating to this condition which does make us wonder why we're paying for insurance in the first place...

The funds will be used to cover his current treatment which includes expensive medication ($380 a month on top of $5000 in vet bills for admitting him) to manage his IMPA leading up to his surgery (rough estimate of $5k), which is going to be in a few months. We can't do much in the way of expressing gratitude, but I (Genevieve) am an artist and can do either traditional or digital- so with every donation, I will draw your pet/s or even any animal of your choosing in either medium.
