The Hopkins family backstory:
After a successful heart transplant nearly seventeen years ago, Haden Hopkins now faces another critical medical challenge—he needs both a new heart and a new kidney. This turn of events has brought immense stress and uncertainty to the Hopkins family. Haden's health condition not only threatens his own well-being but also puts a significant emotional and financial strain on his loved ones.

Since his first transplant, Haden's life has blossomed in unexpected ways. He fell in love, got married, and together with his wife, Colleen, they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Hannah (10), and Hadleigh (7). Their family's future takes on a new direction amidst this unexpected medical journey.

Finding the right medical team to address Haden's complex needs has been a journey in itself. After thorough research and consultations, the Hopkins family has found solace in the expertise of the highly accomplished team at the University of California San Diego. This decision hasn't been made lightly; it's a commitment that requires them to uproot their lives and relocate to be within four hours of the hospital. The urgency of Haden's situation means they must be prepared to get him to UCSD hospital at a moment’s notice when the opportunity for a transplant arises.

The prospect of transplanting two major organs and undergoing such a drastic life change is undeniably daunting. Apart from the physical and emotional toll on Haden, Colleen, Hannah, and Hadleigh, there are also practical challenges to consider. The timeline for Haden's treatment is uncertain, but it's expected that they may need to stay in California for 18 months to two years. During this time, UCSD expects Colleen to be Haden's main caregiver, which means their income will be limited.

The financial burden of relocating and establishing a temporary home on the West Coast, while still maintaining ties to their home in Virginia, adds an extra layer of stress.

In light of these challenges, the Hopkins family is reaching out for support from their community. While monetary assistance is greatly appreciated, they also ask for thoughts, prayers, and love during this difficult time. Keeping up with the Hopkins family's journey through their CaringBridge site offers a way for well-wishers to stay connected and offer their support. Let's rally together to ease the burden on Haden and his family, allowing them to focus on what truly matters—each other's well-being and the journey toward renewed health and happiness.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
