Oreo's Surgery

This page is for Oreo, our 8 year old pitbull pup, whom I have raised since he was 2 months old.
As some of you may already know, Oreo has been ill for over a month. We noticed back in May that Oreo had a small intermittent limp and thought it would resolve on its own. When it didn't resolve, we took him to our vet and they recommended a 2 week course of anti-inflammatories thinking the limp may be due to a sprain or beginning stages of arthritis. After 2 weeks, the limping became worse and the vet did x-rays. The x-rays showed arthritis in both his front legs and a suspicious lesion on his front left humerus that could either be a fracture or possible cancer as it was not a hallmark lesion. Our vet recommended we see an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion. Last week Oreo was seen and evaluated by the surgeon. She saw his x-rays and told us that she believes it's cancer and recommended a bone marrow biopsy to determine what kind of cancer we're dealing with.
Today we received the news that Oreo has osteosarcoma which is a type of bone cancer. It is recommended that we remove the affected bone immediately to decrease the spread of the cancer and to relieve him of his pain. A chest x-ray was also done which showed no metastasis which we are very happy about.
Unfortunately this means we would have to amputate his entire front left leg. The costs alone that helped diagnose his cancer costed us a little over $2000. The surgery for the amputation will cost us at the least $4200.
We are in need of your help to find the funds to afford this treatment. Oreo is our boy whom we've cared for just as parents would care for their child. He is our 8 year old boy and our family loves him very much. He has brought many smiles and happiness to our friends and family.
