Pod learning supports children in need of more focused attention while providing working parents a place to send their child safely in such tumultuous times. Unfortunately, pod learning is expensive, and is not an equitable option for families across the socioeconomic spectrum. To that end, Orchard Seedling was founded. As you can see in the video, each parent's experience of Orchard Seedling's impact on their children is different.
Throughout the pandemic, Orchard Seedling has made pod learning equitable and accessible to its students and their families by offering an in-person learning experience at no cost. By contributing to this campaign, you’re helping this pod continue to exist, and providing a student with a learning experience that they may not otherwise have.
Orchard Seedling is an offshoot of Orchard Academy, a new Detroit Public Charter School, which will be opening in Fall 2021. Orchard Seedling has been fortunate to have Susie Weiner running the in-person pod at no cost to the children currently enrolled. As part of this fundraiser, Susie and the Orchard Seedling team hope to build positive community relations and awareness of Orchard Academy's mission, while creating momentum in advance of the school's opening next fall.
And now for the big ask…
We need your help sustaining this in-person learning experience. Specifically, keeping the Orchard Seedling running for the 2020/21 school year will require raising $70,000! The cost per student is $7,000 for the school year ($700 per month), which covers early reading books, math manipulatives, various educational tools, curriculum materials, supplemental food, snacks and beverages, outdoor play items, monthly rent, and staff compensation. Time is critical as the program is not currently funded. Donations large or small will be greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.
Susie's passion, energy, and determination will certainly help Orchard Seedling grow and succeed; we need your support in order to make that happen. If you know of any foundations that may be able to support this cause, please pass this fundraiser along. And of course, if you have any friends or family that would like to contribute, please share with them as well!
