Our first Raising Appalachia campaign seeks help for a single mom of 3 in rural central Virginia.
One of her children was born with serious neurological and mobility difficulties, requiring regular medical appointments at facilities that are up to 2 hours away from her home.
This dedicated mother needs your help. Her car has recently died, leaving her stranded at home without any way to travel to the doctor or get to work.
Your donation will help provide:
1) Funds toward the purchase of a vehicle - not a pretty one, or an expensive one, but one that is reliable and provides the peace of mind that she won't be left stranded on the side of a country road while travelling to a doctor or to school.
2) Auto insurance (required by state law in Virginia)
2) Back-to-school supplies
3) New clothing for her children
4) Food
5) Gas
6) Telephone service at her home.
The father is MIA. Mom is employed, sober, works hard, does not live frivolously, and would do anything to provide for her family. She gets by on a low income, and she struggles to split time between caring for her children, attending church, going to doctor and therapy appointments, and her job.
Because she lives in a rural area, she simply cannot succeed without transportation. Her car literally is her child's lifeline and her family's freedom. Without a car, her special-needs child cannot receive the required medical care. Without a car, she cannot work, nor can she continue to search for additional work. She cannot buy groceries, or take her children to school. She cannot run errands or complete any of the numerous tasks required of a working single mother of three children. All the necessities of life that we all take for granted are inaccessible to her.
