Dear Friends, Family, and our Or Echad community,
We’re reaching out to you because we're all a part of the wonderful, warm, Or Echad / HomeShul community, and we wanted to share our stories with you. Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth have dedicated their lives to bringing Judaism and Jewish education to our community--directly to the homes of 100’s of children and their families for many years. In doing that, they have touched many lives, including ours.
Paula Caplan’s Story
Personally, I could never have managed to get all three of my children to Hebrew school 2-3 days a week while working my crazy schedule and long hours as a nurse. That’s why HomeShul was a great solution for us. Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth made our family's goal of having B'nai Mitzvahs for our three children come true! Each of them celebrated this milestone in a way that was personalized, unique, and truly fit their needs. Since meeting the Rosenfelds, our family has spent the High Holy Days with them every year, and we truly love the experience! Our kids enjoy going with us, and we all participate in the services in some way as well. I don’t know of anywhere else that you can go to High Holy Days where the Rabbi and Cantor greet you personally with a hug and smile, you get to participate, and you know almost everyone there! It’s so rare to have a warm and intimate experience like this.
Sara Schiff’s Story
I had heard about Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth through some friends who had been members of Or Echad for several years. When they came to our home for our initial meeting, we quickly felt a wonderful connection. My husband and I were so happy to find that Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth were so personable, and especially that they were so flexible in helping us plan our daughter Sophie’s Bat Mitzvah. Most of all, Sophie liked them and so she wanted to start studying for her Bat Mitzvah! Before this time, our family had tried a few temples, but we had never found a place we liked or where we felt we belonged until we spent the High Holy Days with Or Echad. The inclusiveness, warmth, and meaningful services that Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth provided really resonated with us.
Rabbi Ira and Cantor Beth are both so kind, patient, and accommodating. They work long hours and juggle many hats to run Or Echad and HomeShul, and we want to give them something back.
While Or Echad has been successful for several years, they have also been very open about their need to raise money to offset rising costs. Funding is desperately needed for a used van, rabbinical intern, and upgrades to the HomeShul classroom at the Rosenfeld home, where they also have monthly events. We are trying to raise $25,000 by the end of the year, but we need your help to meet this goal.
That's why we have created this account. If you could support our GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network of friends, it would be greatly appreciated. We know that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 helps reach our goal! $18 is a mitzvah! In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, please consider making a larger tax-deductible donation.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Paula Caplan and Sara Schiff
