Opsahl Family Assistance Fund

On Veterans Day, Edward Opsahl (who also happens to be a veteran) was at work serving his community in his capacity as a corrections officer. He suffered some pretty severe injuries, which required that he be airlifted to Harborview Medical center from Yakima.

His Wife, Kirstan, needs some assistance to pay for the parking fees in Seattle. At the moment she is staying with me, so she does not need help with hotel costs or meals. While I can drive her into Seattle and pick her up several days a week, there are days I can’t do that because of my work schedule. The cheapest parking near Harborview starts at $19 a day, It is a 35 mile round trip from my home in Lynnwood, and she gets to enjoy the joys of Seattle Traffic. Ed is probably going to need care from specialists in Seattle for months.

This is also a family that has been slowly fixing up a house that was totally trashed, and doing all the labor themselves. Right now, there is a septic system that needs work, and the family is walking on sub-floors, and they have a bathroom that needs to be finished.

This family that is quick to reach out and help anyone and everyone else. Anytime I’ve needed help moving, packing, or any big event, they have just asked what days I needed them and they found a ways to make it work. I’m asking people to help them out now. This family is not going to be able to do the labor to work on this house for a long time, and driving and parking in Seattle is expensive.

I am choosing to give up some if my self indulgent spending to help them out. I am asking other people to do what they can to help out.
